FAQs

What are lab grown diamonds?

Lab grown diamonds are real diamonds that are created in state of the art labs using advanced technology that flawlessly mimics the conditions under the earth where diamonds are found naturally. They are physically, chemically and optically identical to natural diamonds.

Are lab grown diamonds fake?

Lab diamonds are not fake. Chemically, physically and optically, lab grown diamonds are identical to natural diamonds. They are real diamonds with the same crystal structure, and beautiful sparkle as natural diamonds.

Do they have any resale value?

Just like natural diamonds, lab grown diamond jewelry also has a resale value. There is approximately a 15 to 20% deduction on the original price, depending on the policies of the jeweler selling them.

Can you tell the difference between a natural diamond and a lab grown diamond?

There is no way of differentiating a lab grown diamond from a natural diamond by looking at them. Even a trained jeweler cannot tell the difference between a natural diamond and a lab grown one, even when looking at them through a microscope. The only way to differentiate one from the other is by using advanced equipment in a reputed gemological lab.

What are the benefits of buying lab grown diamond jewelry?
  • Lab grown diamonds are sustainable, as they are low in carbon footprint. Diamond mining is disastrous for the environment and has a negative impact on the climate and ecology. Lab grown diamonds are ethical as they are created in state of the art labs, as opposed to the natural ones where diamond miners, including children work as bonded labour in hazardous, abusive, and inhumane conditions.
  • Lab diamonds are purer than the mined ones, as they are better in clarity and are created in state of the art labs.
  • Lab grown diamond jewelry is pocket-friendly as it costs only a percentage of jewelry made with natural diamonds. Lab grown diamonds don’t cost the earth, not just metaphorically, but even literally!
Are lab grown diamonds the same as synthetic diamonds?

Lab grown diamonds are not synthetic diamonds or Cubic Zirconia (CZ) or Moissanite nor are they diamond stimulants. They are real diamonds.

How do I care for my lab grown diamond jewelry?

To keep your lab grown diamond jewelry shining bright, and to maintain its brilliance and clarity follow these guidelines:

  1. Apply skin care products before wearing your diamond jewelry. This prevents any residue from a lotion, sunscreen, perfume or body spray from coming in contact with the jewelry. These products leave a film on the surface of the diamonds, affecting their brilliance and clarity.
  2. Avoid wearing your jewelry during physical activities like exercising or swimming. Contact with rough surfaces or excessive force can scratch or chip the diamonds. Exposure to chemicals like chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs can affect the appearance of the diamonds.
  3. Clean your precious diamonds regularly
    • To maintain the shine of the diamonds, clean your jewelry after every use by wiping it with a soft cloth to remove any oily residue, sweat or dust that may have accumulated.
    • You can clean your diamonds with soap and water twice a month. Place your jewelry in a solution of  warm water and mild soap, and let it soak for a few minutes. Don’t use household cleaning products that have harsh chemicals like bleach, ammonia, chlorine, and acetone to clean as they harm the diamonds. Gently rub the jewelry with a soft brush or cloth to remove the grime, rinse it thoroughly with clean water, and pat dry with a soft cloth.
    • Use a jewelry polishing cloth, specifically designed for diamonds and gently rub the diamonds to remove fingerprints and smudges. This helps restore the shine of the diamonds. If you want a thorough cleaning of your jewelry, or your jewelry has intricate settings, it's best to get it done by a professional jeweler who uses specialised equipment and techniques to clean the diamonds safely.
  4. Store your diamond jewelry safely
    • To protect your piece from dust, moisture and scratches, use the age-old method of wrapping it in a soft cloth and placing it in a fabric-lined jewelry box.
    • Keep your diamond jewelry separate from other objects, and even from jewelry made of other material, to avoid scratches on the diamonds. Use a jewelry box with compartments to keep your lab grown diamond rings, earrings, bracelets and pendants separately.
